The (not so) long awaited sequel to Flash Element TD created by David Scott last January is live at Candyshop.com! Released a few hours ago, Flash Circle TD is not public and there is no link anywhere on the site.
According to the author, the leader-board is not up and running yet and should be working tomorrow (you need to register to submit your score).
The goal of the new Tower Defense game is still to survive “creeps†waves, where the creeps become more and more difficult to destroy. In Flash Circle TD, creeps enter the maze on both sides of the game window. They do so in groups of 15 each side, every few seconds. The total number of creeps must be kept below the maximum capacity of the maze (100 in medium mode and 80 in hard mode), or the game is over.
To destroy the creeps, you must build towers alongside the path they take. Towers attack any monster that gets within range. To build a new tower, must select its icon on the right of the screen then move the mouse over to the maze and click again where you want to build the tower.
All towers can be upgraded to improve their stats or sold to give you some of the $ you have spent on it back. To upgrade or sell a tower simply click on the tower you wish to upgrade/sell then press either of the buttons on the right. Some of the towers have special properties. The splash tower will do damage not only to the monster it hits but all monsters around it, the slow tower will reduce the speed of the monster which will make them take more hits from other nearby towers. Some towers only fire at monsters that are on the ground, the air tower will only fire on monsters that fly and other towers will fire on both land and air monsters.
Some hints and tips to help you do well.
1. Slow towers have low damage but can cause monsters to group up, making them easy picking for splash towers.
2. Built air towers before the air levels start then sell them when the air is all gone, this will free up $ for other towers.
3. When placing a tower the circle drawn around your mouse shows the range of the tower, use this to make sure the tower overlaps the path more than it overlaps other towers.
4. The range circle you get when you build or click on a tower flashes, this is the speed the tower fires.
5. You can focus fire on specific monsters as they walk by clicking on them. All towers in range of that monster will focus fire to try and take it out quicker.
Flash Circle is superbly done; the gameplay is fun and brings some fresh air in the game genre. There is not a lot to complain about in this game, unless you don’t like Tower Defence games. My only recommendation would be to add a “fast forward†option that could be very useful to save time (especially in the early levels) and would probably appeal to hardcore players (during my first attempt in normal mode, I played over half an hour before finally being defeated at level 62).
That being said, if you liked Flash Element TD, you will love Flash Circle TD!
Update: the leaderboard is running!
