Chat NoirChat Noir is a very simple puzzle game created by the talented Japanese game designer Taro Ito. Your goal here is to catch the black cat before she escapes the game window. There is no maximum number of moves, no timer and no high scores: just a little fun diversion. Have fun!

never played such a stupid, boring and useless game

  2. NetMonster says:

Most levels are unbeatable, so there isn’t much point…

    • HRA says:

All levels are beatable. Don’t blame the game for your own inability. I win most games, and have beaten several that gave me only one starting dot. This game is ingenious.

  3. bob says:

sheesh u people are harsh… but it was pretty stupid so u have every right to be

  4. Reka says:

NetMonster – actually, I’d say about half of the randomly-generated boards (they’re not “levels” in the usual sense) are beatable, possibly even more. The cat doesn’t always make the best possible move, and if you can get it to backtrack, you can usually get a wall going. The other key is to already have a ‘spot’ at all the corners of your wall, so your first move can be pretty important.

This is a nice little mathematical puzzle, really.

  5. dirtprof says:

Reka’s right. Nice puzzle–mostly beatable, if you understand what the cat’s going to do.

  6. fischer says:

some people are spoilt! I rather like it: fun, no competition, no weapons …

  7. .*. says:

Once I had managed to trap the cat once, I had had enough of the game for the rest of my life.

  8. garlic says:

I think every level should be beatable – every time i lost it was due to a mistake

    nice little game

  9. jeff says:

i think this is a great game. something a little different. dont be pissed because you cant beat the artificial intelligence of a cat.

  10. Reka says:

Garlic, I’m pretty sure not every board is beatable, e.g. if you only have 2 givens. (Or rather, in that case the cat would have to make all the wrong moves for the game to be winnable.)

I do wish the cat would concede defeat as soon as you have an unbroken fence around it. :)

But I still like this game.

  11. santtu says:

    i complete this only once

  12. Bryce says:

A very frustrating (but no less enjoyable) game. Well done!

  13. Tzambissamo says:

This is a great game, I think it’s possible to beat almost every level. The trick is to play away from the cat and learn shapes that can later be efficiently made into walls. A bit like playing go.

  14. Tyler says:

I try ro trick the cat and it ends up tricking me!

  15. Harrison says:

    Cool game. Maybe a sequel?

  16. redherring says:

I think the challenge is in the least number of spots. I did it with four spots in the corners, and i placed seventeen down. Quite easy sometimes, but other levels are just retarded :3

  17. Besionishe says:

Cute little one. I think it’s possible to beat most of the levels. Do not blame the game if you do not try too much.

  18. Marcel says:

    I did it YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    lolz

  19. KSINDGA says:

Some levels are beatable other not. The beatable levels are easy, the unbeatable only annoy you. No menu, no really levels, etc. Not bad concept but really crappy game.
    2/10 for the idea.

  20. Summer says:

Bloody brilliant! The cat is absolutely adorable! Don’t let yourself get frustrated if at first you don’t succeed, just keep on trying and maybe you’ll figure it out :)

  21. Jim Dire says:

This is a very smart, sophisticated game. It can be done, but it is easy to get outsmarted. First moves should be far away from the cat, the object being to “herd” him into a direction where you are forcing his moves rather than him forcing yours. If the cat gets onto a diagonal movement pattern you are probably sunk, but if you can change him to a horizontal movement you have a better chance of corraling him.

I like the game bcause there is no competition or beating the clock, just logic and implied mathematical concepts.

  22. Henrique says:

There is an iPhone version for this game.

  23. retard baby says:

great game in my opinion trapped the little bastard a few times and it makes u feel all tingly inside when you do, its just a fun little game to play around with a good time waster too i spent probably 30 to 40 minutes just fiddling around with it

  24. Thinker says:

the cat doesn’t always make the best moves. You can beat him most of the time if you think ahead. However, if the cat heads straight for the sides, and the game begins with one or two spots, he’s almost impossible to defeat!
