Use the crowbar underneath the white table with the heart cutouts to get the red key.

the blue key is a red herring? Because you get the blue ring from the blue keyhole, and that’s all four rings already.

I’m quite thoroughly stuck with the code now.

The message on the wall reads PAIR – the chair’s leg is (or is hiding) the stem of the P. In each color’s grid, count the number of pairs of symbols, then put them in order according to the clock, more specifically according to the length of each hand of the clock.

The red hand is shortest, so it comes first; then the yellow; then it’s a judgment call between the blue and green, but generally a second hand is longer than the minute hand of a clock, so go with green, then blue. This gives the code 5240, at least for me (and these games aren’t usually randomized).

(And I was right, the blue key is not needed.)

Walkthrough:

Yowch! The door slams in your face for what seems like the 100th time, and you find yourself locked in a room painted dark blue. You notice a combination lock built into the door, and you think to yourself that discovering this combination is the secret to getting out of this room and preparing for your 101st imprisonment next week.

On the floor, you see a bowl containing some sort of concoction. You pick it up. It is something called a Beef Bowl, but the noodles are rubbery and the meat doesn’t look like it’s cooked at all. Better keep it, but you’re hoping there’s a homeless shelter just outside the door you can donate to later.

You pick up a Soccer Ball that’s also resting on the floor. Apologies to those of you outside the United States, but I just can’t call it a Football. There’s a clock high up on the wall, but you can’t get a closer look.

Moving to the right, you see a modern modular chair, an old-fashioned coffee table and a curio cabinet that seems like it’s tied shut. Martha Stewart clearly wasn’t hired to decorate this room. In fact, she’d probably willingly go back to prison to avoid being confronted with this affrontery to the concept of room design.

There’s some sort of television screen embedded in the table. No idea how to turn it on, though. You look under the table on the right side and see some sort of button under the screen, but it doesn’t do anything yet.

You look under the modular chair, and written on the wall is the word “PAIR.” It may be random chance, or a real juxtaposition, but you can’t help noticing the carved-out heart shape is sort-of next to the word. A pair of hearts? Are we playing a variation of poker today?

You look behind the curio cabinet on the left side, and see a design of what might be a woman facing left on the opposite wall near the floor. Her eyes are closed and her mouth is strained and tight-lipped. She appears to be in great pain. You hope you can find her and help her. Perhaps she likes undercooked beef.

Disappointed, you’re half-way through your first look at this room, and all you have to play with is a soccer ball. You kick it around for a few minutes, hoping for ideas, but you realize there’s much more to find.

You turn to the right and face a wall with a small pink chair, a cabinet and a stack of locked safes. You pick up the Pink Chair.

You pull on the small red handle of the cabinet and get a closer look. The handle is a red ring, and it appears to be screwed on to the drawer. Hopefully, you can find a screwdriver somewhere, though the beef is starting to harden and might be useful for this purpose in a couple of hours.

Looking behind the cabinet on the right side, you find a second Beef Bowl. And you pick up a third Beef Bowl on the floor next to the stack of safes.

You look under the stack of safes and pick up a Crowbar. You try using it on the cabinet handle, but nothing happens. You take a look at the safes, examine them more closely. You click on the blue handle and find yourself holding a Blue Ring.

You turn to the right again and see a large china cabinet and an antique table, also with a heart carving. You see a little grey box on the table, so you click on it and find yourself arranging tiles. You assemble the picture you saw of the unhappy woman. In fact, she appears to be a little more depressed than she was a couple of screens ago. Your heart goes out to her, but, deep inside, you know it’s going to take more than a soccer ball to relieve her pain.

You click on the button at the bottom of the box and take a Yellow Key.

You look behind the china cabinet on the left side for a minute, but you don’t see anything to pick up. There’s an orange traffic cone on top of the cabinet, with what looks like a green ring.

You can’t quite reach it, so you look for a place to put the chair on the floor so you can stand on it. That doesn’t work. You’re upset, so you throw the Soccer Ball at the cone, knocking it to the ground. That felt nice. You decide to leave the cone alone, but you look behind the cabinet again and pick up the Green Ring.

Moving back to the left, you open the safe with the yellow handle with your Yellow Key. Were you expecting more beef? Yes! A fourth Beef Bowl and a pair of Nippers.

You go left again, and use the Nippers to clip the wire holding the curio cabinet closed. You open the cabinet and take a Yellow Ring.

Going to the left, you face the door again. You put your Pink Chair on the floor in front of the clock. You stand on the chair to take a closer look at the clock. This is an odd clock. The yellow and green hands seem straight-forward. The Yellow hand (hours) points to 10, the Green hand (minutes) points to 2. A Blue hand (seconds) points just past the 5 and a Red hand (perhaps an alarm of some sort) points just short of the 7. In fact, there’s no seconds hash on the surface of the clock where the red hand points.

So the time represented is 10:10 and 26 seconds, and there might be an alarm of some sort at 6:36. You try and hack apart the clock with your Crowbar, but that doesn’t solve your problems.

You go back to the right and start experimenting. Looking under the coffee table, you notice you can put the Yellow Ring on the button below the table, and then the screen on the top displays a pattern. But other rings do not work.

You notice a slightly disturbed area of the floor underneath the table, directly below the carved-out heart. You take the Crowbar and dig a bit, and there’s a Red Key.

You move to the right, and use the Red Key on the red handle. There, you take a Screwdriver and a fifth Beef Bowl. Yummy? No. Not at all. That’s a lot of undercooked beef to be carrion around (groan).

You use the Screwdriver on the red handle on the front of the cabinet and take the Red Ring.

Going back to the left, it’s time to start looking at what the rings do with the small screen. You place the Yellow Ring on the button under the table. The screen now shows a checkboard with various shapes.

Each ring fits in a different slot, but they only display a pattern when they’re the only ring in place.

You notice that there are 13 shapes displayed for each pattern. Remembering the word “PAIR” from the clue on the wall, you count the shape pairs for each color. For Red, there are 5 pairs and 3 shapes unpaired. For Green, there are 4 pairs with 5 unpaired shapes. For Blue, there are no pairs. And for Yellow, there are 2 pairs and 9 shapes unpaired.

You think, perhaps, the solution is some combination of 0, 2, 4 and 5. You move back to the clock and look at the the colored hands. It could be Yellow, Green, Blue, Red if you’re looking at hand importance (hours, minutes, seconds, alarm). Or Green, Blue, Red, Yellow if in numerical order. Or maybe it’s shortest to longest: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue?

You go to the door, and try these combinations. The first, 2405, does nothing. The second, 4052, also does nothing. And so you try the third, 5240. You hear a click and the lock button turns yellow. Turning the handle, you’re able to leave the room.

But you don’t eat the Beef Bowls, because you want to stay healthy for next week’s imprisonment.

How come that I could not get the green combination? I tried putting the green ring on the table and under it, mtried to mix it with the other coloured rings, but no green combinatin appeared. I couldn’t place that idiot green ring! how did you do?
