The computer code isn’t a red herring, you just have to use it with the given hints:

Show

1. Notice that the computer’s pattern has squares, not circles.
2. On the heater with the yellow coin, you have a blue square pointing to a red circle (coin).
3. The pillows form a red square pointing to a blue circle.
4. The poster has a black square pointing to a yellow circle.
5. After you turn off the lights, the poster becomes a yellow square pointing to a black circle.
6. So, when you make the changes to the computer pattern according to these four hints, you DO get that olympic flag pattern mentioned above.
