Site Upgrade
Categories: Site Stuff
As you may have noticed, I’m currently upgrading the site to better serve FreeGamesNews visitors, so please bear with me during this transition! Avatars are now available in the comments section. If you want to set up you avatar, simply click your avatar image in the comments and follow the instructions…
There is also a new “Insert Spoilers Tags” in the leave a comment section for easily adding spoiler tags in your comments. Hope you find it useful.
Please let me know if you notice anything broken on the site. Thanks for your help!
Nice addition, Eric. How do I add an avatar?
Also, I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but I’m just very curious. Why can’t users edit/delete their posts here?
WTF? The new system forgets my username & e-mail address, even after I posted that message!
Worse, if I forget my e-mail address, I won’t be able to use my screen-name anymore!
I agree with Unowninator- it’s a major pain to have to put your name & e-mail in every single time you want to make a comment!
@ Unowninator and Anonymouse – Hum, let see if I can reproduce the problem here…
Test #2…
FGN-test, are you a mod?
@Unwninator – Yeap, I’m Eric, working with another PC/I.P., trying to figure out what’s wrong. Name and email were still displayed in the corresponding fields after you posted a comment before the upgrade, is that correct?
Yes
I have temporarily disabled avatars… I’m digging into the problem!
Hi Eric, your front page is currently experiencing “float drop” in IE6 – the content starts down below the end of the left column.
@Unwninator – I found the cause of the problem. Please let me know if it works (it should)!
Thanks again for your patience!
…or make that the right column. Anyway, the one that’s shorter.
Also, I’m seeing weird screen redrawing effects when I scroll – parts of the text disappear then reappear.
@Reka – Oops, thanks for pointing this out. Now the question is where will I find a computer with IE 6?!
Cool beans Eric. Now you just need to get a setting so I can post my vid links without needing approval. ;-)

It works. Thanks Eric.
@Reka – Site is now viewable with IE6!
Eric- Thanks for fixing the comments!!
How do I set an avatar?
Love the changes!
This is cool. @_@ XP
awesome
@DNOMN8R – “If you want to set up you avatar, simply click your avatar image in the comments and follow the instructions…”
I don’t have an avatar image in the comments.
Never mind; I’m an idiot. Found it. I thought you meant in the “leave message” section. Also, why is it that whenever I use the spoiler

Great work, Eric. Now it´s also easier to find comments of a specific person in a game, with the avatars. Only is my picture a little bit small now with the little avatarswindows ;) I´ll search for another picture later…
@DNOMN8R – How did you enter you spoiler tags in comment #25? There is a br tag in your comment, but I can’t figure where it comes from?
@Eric:
Like this:
(spoiler)
Text Text Text(/spoiler)
Except with brackets instead of parentheses.
@DNOMN8R – Do you press enter after you type “Like this:”?
If so, which browser/Os do you use?
Eric, I like the updates, but how did I get an avitar? Are they just random unless I choose one? Or will this one stay with me unless I choose a new one?
@ Tusa – Yes, your avatar will stay permanently unless you decide to change it. Use the “Get your own avatar!” link above (or click your current avatar) and thenfollow the instructions to get your own one!
@Eric: Yes, I pressed enter.
So it’s more like this.
Text text text
(spoiler)
Spoiler text(/spoiler)
More text
I have IE.
I really like the new look of the site Eric. Avatars make searching posts a whole lot easier. The spoiler tag button is a fantastic addition! Let’s see how many people still forget to use them though!! I love this site. Seems much more friendly and less cliquey than some others. Good Job!
I just noticed that someone earlier asked why we can’t edit or delete our own posts. It’s a good question as many other sites do allow this. It can help reduce multiple posts to correct previous errors or add to partial walkthroughs etc. What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks for fixing the float drop thing. There’s still very strange disappearing text going on in the comment sections, however. Dunno if there’s anything to be done about it…
If we sign up for an avatar, why doesn’t it change for previously posted messages?
Oh, correction: why doesn’t my selected avatar show up?
Sorry, I keep replying to myself: apparently, it’s a caching issue. I needed to wait a bit and/or clear my cache to see the new avatar.
Hmm, perhaps I need to make something smaller.
@DNOMN8R – Still don’t know how/why your browser adds br tags in your comments, but anyway, I will try to fix this problem soon…
@SuzieGirl64 – This site is powered by WordPress, and what you’re asking for is not a standard feature. I will see what I can do.
@Reka – I don’t see any disappearing text in the comment section with IE6. I will make some changes in the comment section soon and we will see if things get better…
I like the new site :)
Thanks Eric
my spoilers also indent. I don’t mind it as it clearly separates spoilers from

oh! Interesting. It didn’t do it on that previous post, although it was there when I previewed it.

Ok. It happens when you put a return in just after the first spoiler tag.
*tests out avatar*
WTF? It didn’t work! Do I have to use the same e-mail address that I use for this site? Because… I forgot the password for it. ;_; (and I put in random info for it to save time).
@ Unowninator – Yes, you have to use the SAME email address! There is a forgot your passwordd option @ gravatar.com…
No, I mean that I forgot the password to my e-mail address (the one I use here).
Never mind. I remembered my password! (I apparently wrote it down on paper! Lucky me! :D)
Let’s see if it works, now!
WTF? It still won’t work!
Well it works now, but unfortunately it’s too small for me (and probably others too).
*goes off to find another avatar* LOL
