Shift is a great platformer game with a puzzle twist developed by Antony Lavelle. The goal is to get to the door and, of course, it is not an easy task. The player is normally separated from the door by spikes or a maze. The maze is completed by “shifting” dimensions. Players can move so far on the white or black side of the map and then must switch to the other side to get further.
Players use the left and right arrow keys to control the character on the screen and the space bar causes the character to jump. There is one other “important” keyboard key, but you will find out what key that is and what it does when you play the game. The key to press is required on one of the very first puzzles the player encounters so you won’t have to go far before you unlock its secret potential.
Players will also run into swinging platforms as they progress through the level. The platforms are moved by getting the keys that are spread throughout the level. Some levels have a few keys to collect, some have only one and other levels have keys that don’t need to be gotten. The keys will swing the doors out of the way or position them to block spikes so you can reach the door or other sections of the level. Players don’t know which key controls which platform.
Shift does not contain a lot of levels, but the game does keep track of the time it takes players to complete the levels. The less time the player takes to complete the level the higher their score. Players get their names on the high score list and can replay the game to try and get better scores.
Shift is a really fun and addicting game. Many of the levels contain puzzles that are not too difficult to solve, but not so easy the game gets boring. The main puzzle of each level is trying to get your character to the door. Anyone looking for a well done puzzle game that is different from other games should check out Shift.
Have fun!
