   At some point, you might need to understand Japanese numerals to open a box with a code, but the number of combinations you need to try is very small, so it’s not a real problem. Also, you won’t be able to open it until you’ve seen the clue.

     I brute-forced it, too. But all you need is the big/medium/small clue posted on the game description here.
