Big City Adventure: New York“Hidden object game Big City Adventure: New York City is rather a lot like Manhattan itself: very large and with an overwhelming number of things to see and do. It can be a bit aggravating at times, but what trip to the Big Apple isn’t?

After touring San Francisco and Sydney, your family has decided to take in the sights of New York City, hitting hot spots like Wall Street, Chinatown, Little Italy, and Harlem. At each stop, you’ll scan the area for a list of hidden items. At least two of the items will be hidden in special areas that you’ll have to zoom in on to search, but both the special spot and the objects are indicated in blue, so that you’re not left searching in vain. The items are well hidden, but never unfairly, so a keen eye and patience will spell success. Hint coins will help you through those moments when you’re just plain stumped; you can only hold five at a time, but when your supply drops, a fresh batch will be hidden in your next location…

…One feature that makes Big City Adventure: New York City particularly fun to play is its Quick Continue option, which lets you skip the tallying up of your end-of-level bonus and just get on with playing. If you want to take the moment to exult in your point-accruing success, you can, but if you’d rather just bank the points and get on with things, the Quick Continue option is a fantastic and welcome shortcut…

…The construction is repetitive (hidden object level, puzzle, hidden object level, puzzle), but there are so many levels that it’s a game you’re going to want to take your time with, anyway. The voice acting in the intro cut scene is painful, but once that’s out of the way, you have plenty of hidden object goodness awaiting you. Pack your bags - let’s hit the town!”

“…Like its predecessors (San Francisco and Sydney), Big City Adventure: New York is a pure hidden object game, composed entirely of hidden object scenes dotted with a rotating series of mini-games…

…Gameplay is very straightforward, so the opening tutorial is almost unnecessary. Each scene and mini-game is timed, and you gain points for every found object. Bonus points are awarded for quick-finds and time remaining at the end of the scene, so speed is greatly rewarded. Be warned: multiple wrong clicks steal 30 seconds off of the clock! There are hint coins in each scene which can show you objects or even add time to the counter. If minding the minutes isn’t your thing, you can skip the timer and play a relaxed, untimed mode…

…Big City Adventure: New York contains a staggering 90 HOG scenes (30 locations, each one visited three times), with mini-games between each scene. Even if you are the quickest hidden object fiend on the planet, you’re still looking at a minimum of four hours gameplay. Most of us are looking at lots more…

…After so many recent disappointments in the length of casual games (especially the HOG games), it’s nice to find a game that instead is ready to offer you hours and hours of fun, casual gameplay…”
