The Tudors“Based on the television series, The Tudors, this latest hidden object game from Merscom has you involved in a fabulous story of betrayal and treason as a spy for King Henry VIII. For history buffs, King Henry VIII ruled England between 1491 and 1547. Henry the Eighth was probably best know for having six wives, two of which he had beheaded for treasonous acts, and for his role in the separation of the Church of England from the Catholic Church. He was a colorful and controversial King, loved by some, feared by others and totally detested by many. Henry VIII was the second monarch in the Tudor family royal lineage and succeeded his father Henry VII to the throne.

In this very historical hidden object game, playing as Elena Sedgraves, you will travel across England and Europe, finding clues and uncovering assassination plots and threats against the British throne. There are political conspiracies afoot and the enemies of Henry VIII are gathering strength to bring his rule to an end. You must use all your logic abilities and sniff out the cunning plots so that England, and our dear Henry, are kept safe…

…As a classic hidden object game, The Tudors is a good play, with nice length, good graphics and historical story line. It isn’t one of the new breed of IHOGS, so if you like a lot more interaction, you may find this classic hidden object game a tad boring. Try the free download, as usual your opinion may differ from ours. We give this one a good thumbs up and really enjoyed a trip down the historical path.”

“The Tudors is a hidden object game based on the television drama of the same name that follows the reign of Henry VIII, the English king best known for founding the Anglican church and having six wives, two of whom were eventually beheaded.

The game starts right after King Henry has wed his third wife, Jane Seymour a mere two weeks after the execution of his second wife, Anne Boleyn. You play a young maiden named Elena Sedgrave who gets caught up in palace intrigue. After she saves the life of one of Henry’s men, the king asks her to accompany her father William Sedgrave on various diplomatic missions to the other kingdoms of Europe, where she is to serve as the king’s personal spy…

…The Tudors certainly does a nice job of immersing the player in a convincing tale of political intrigue and backstabbing that could have been lifted right out of the TV show. The settings, musical soundtrack and graphics - which feature still renditions of several recognizable characters from the show including Henry himself - also stay true to the source material…

…Overall, fans of the television show on which The Tudors is based will be more likely to put up with this hidden object game’s foibles than players who have never seen the show. Definitely a try before you buy.”

Spintop Games

1912: Titanic Mystery“1912 Titanic Mystery takes place a few years in the future, 2012 to be specific, during the 100 year anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Titanic. To commemorate the occasion, a replica vessel dubbed the Titanic II has been built. The ship will sail across the Atlantic, hoping to complete the journey that its predecessor began one hundred years ago. The people running the ship have even gone to the trouble of tracking down descendants of the original passengers and inviting them on board.

Don’t we teach history class in school in hopes of avoiding situations like this? Isn’t the point of studying history to learn from our mistakes so that we won’t repeat them? Nevertheless, this is an entertaining premise for a story. If this were happening in real life, I would probably be upset, but in the confines of a computer game, I find myself pretty entertained by it all…

…The audio in 1912 Titanic Mystery, both the soundtrack and the sound effects, is a joy to listen to. The music is soothing and very fitting for the game’s theme, and the sound effects are lively and cheerful…

…1912 Titanic Mystery is a fun and entertaining hidden objects game with a plot well rooted in factual history. It may be a little silly, but it will have you glued to your seat pretty early on.”

Gamezebo

“The story of the Titanic is an infamous tale of tragedy, loss, and the unthinkable. In 1912 Titanic Mystery, the birth of the Titanic II 100 years after the sinking of the legendary leviathan brings promise of reconciliation by completing the vessel’s original maiden voyage. However, not all is as it seems when threat of a bomb surfaces. It’s up to you to stop it in this new hidden object game from Suricate Software.

The Titanic II is a vessel based directly off the original, only updated with modern technology. At the beginning of the story you’ll be introduced to six members of the crew. With very little known except that you’re a descendant of one of the original passengers, the story soon unfolds into something much more dramatic when one of the six crew members, identity unknown, informs you there’s a bomb on board. In order to have any chance of preventing the sinking of the Titantic II, you must find and follow the clues left by the mystery bomber and eventually try to find and deactivate the bomb…

…The game itself does a masterful job of storytelling, though, with the game growing more intense as you progress through each area. Instead of it being told live, you’ll be reading it as you collect diary entries from a woman on board the original Titanic during the maiden voyage. The story is anything but shallow, and soon grows into a very personal and enthralling account of the simple life, the past, love, and survival. But the entries aren’t just a nice touch of storytelling and involvement: they tie directly into the present and the situation with the bomb.

Overall, 1912 Titanic Mystery is a game with average gameplay, but an interesting story that helps to make the experience a little more interesting.”

Valerie Porter and the Scarlet Scandal?

Casual Explosion

Valerie Porter and the Scarlet Scandal“…Valerie Porter is a hidden object adventure game, and quite an active one at that. Like most hidden object games, gameplay primarily involves searching a scene strewn with all manner of knickknacks and junk. You have a list of specific objects to find; clicking on one of these items removes it from the scene and your list. After finding all the objects, you move to the next scene. And so on. Hidden object games are the most popular casual games…

…Though technically Valerie Porter is a hidden object adventure game, it’s a limited one with an inventory/puzzle system confined to individual scenes. Among your list of items to find you’ll see tasks or items written in red script. These require some sort of interaction between an item in your inventory and a portion of the scene. Using a key to unlock a filing cabinet in order to deposit a file, for example…

…The game was most impressive with these rather clever minigames… Equally impressive are the character voice overs; almost every line is spoken, which helps animate the slightly predictable plot…

…However, I can’t give out all gold stars… the game is displayed in the inexcusably low resolution of 800×600 pixels! Though there are few tiny objects to get muddled at that resolution, now and then I had to waste a hint on an object (some rosary beads resting on a plate of food) that I probably would have been able to spot at 1024×768 or higher. Probably. Maybe. It’s 2009, friends! We’ve all got newer computers that blur images when they’re upsampled to our monitors’ native screen depths!”

Hidden Magic?

Hidden Magic“First you better know just what is a Mage. A Mage is a sorcerer or magician, said to be of good intentions, trying to live free from evil. Perhaps you know one yourself, as they like to live normal lives, doing only good deeds, using their knowledge of magical powers and potent spells to combat evil.

Hidden Magic hidden object game takes you into the lives of 2 Mages who live in a modest cottage close to the dark forest. They simply wish to share their strong love for each other and together live long peaceful lives. Their world is shattered when evil goblins, who are puppets of and even more dark and sinister force, kidnap one of the Mages while the other is away picking berries. Now you must follow the trail left by a torn map into the dark forest, using your magic potions and considerable strategy skills to free your love…

…With 48 levels, 2 different character roles, mini games to play and battles to win, plus the several game modes, Hidden Magic takes some time to complete. The only glitch seems to be finding a missing acorn that just doesn’t exist at all anywhere in the game. Other than that this game is good and we recommend trying the usual free download version, playing the hour trial to see if it’s one for you. Hidden Magic is a nice IHOG adventure, not too difficult in relaxed mode, yet quite challenging in advanced mode.”

Casual Explosion

“Hidden Magic, from Dekovir Entertainment, is a hidden object role-playing battle game. You play either a male or female mage searching for your wife or husband, recently kidnapped by goblins while you were out picking raspberries (in the middle of the night). While your beloved was sleeping, a troup of goblins broke in, bagged him or her, and quickly disappeared back into the woods. Returning to your forest hut, you find evidence of goblins and a torn up map revealing where they were headed - a black tower on the other side of the world! That can’t be good…

…Between you and the black tower is a meandering path full of dangerous foes. Luckily you know a few magical spells, and the bottomless bag of alchemist items you carry allows you to do battle with any evil creature you may meet along your quest. These encounters make up the majority of the gameplay in Hidden Magic. You’ll be following the map when all of a sudden a Smokey Seeker or Zombie or Witch will pop out and attack. If you’re a match-3 game fan, you might recognize the inspiration for this system in games like Puzzle Quest…

…A varied amount of minigames are also present in Hidden Magic. You’ll run across puzzles, match-3 boards, memory boards, cryptograms, and more…”

Alexandra Fortune: Mystery of the Lunar Archipelago walkthrough

Gamezebo

Alexandra Fortune: Mystery of the Lunar Archipelago“Alexandra Fortune is the latest intrepid explorer-type character to star in her hidden object adventure, and Alexandra Fortune - Mystery of the Lunar Archipelago is full of familiar trappings: a missing mentor, a mysterious journal left behind, exotic locations to visit, ruins to explore, and a goofy sidekick. But the game simply doesn’t do these things as well as many of the games that it borrows its ideas from.

The game begins when Alexandra’s grandfather, a renowned adventurer, disappears unexpectedly, leaving behind his journal. The journal contains many references to a secret place called the Lunar Archipelago, and sketches in it look very similar to an amulet that Alexandra’s grandfather gave her when she was a girl. Alexandra sets off to solve the mystery of the Lunar Archipelago and hopefully find her missing grandfather in the process…

…On the plus side, the graphics aren’t bad. The locations are bright, and for the most part you won’t find yourself squinting trying to find items that are ridiculously small or blurry. But there’s nothing terribly unique about the nondescript ruins and generic jungles and temples. In truth, nothing about Alexandra Fortune really sets it apart from other similar games. It’s perfectly playable and not a frustrating game at all, but a lack of compelling story or unique puzzles means it’s not a title that you’re going to remember in a few weeks, or want to play a second time.”
