Valerie Porter and the Scarlet Scandal walkthrough

Valerie Porter and the Scarlet Scandal?
Casual Explosion
“…Valerie Porter is a hidden object adventure game, and quite an active one at that. Like most hidden object games, gameplay primarily involves searching a scene strewn with all manner of knickknacks and junk. You have a list of specific objects to find; clicking on one of these items removes it from the scene and your list. After finding all the objects, you move to the next scene. And so on. Hidden object games are the most popular casual games…
…Though technically Valerie Porter is a hidden object adventure game, it’s a limited one with an inventory/puzzle system confined to individual scenes. Among your list of items to find you’ll see tasks or items written in red script. These require some sort of interaction between an item in your inventory and a portion of the scene. Using a key to unlock a filing cabinet in order to deposit a file, for example…
…The game was most impressive with these rather clever minigames… Equally impressive are the character voice overs; almost every line is spoken, which helps animate the slightly predictable plot…
…However, I can’t give out all gold stars… the game is displayed in the inexcusably low resolution of 800×600 pixels! Though there are few tiny objects to get muddled at that resolution, now and then I had to waste a hint on an object (some rosary beads resting on a plate of food) that I probably would have been able to spot at 1024×768 or higher. Probably. Maybe. It’s 2009, friends! We’ve all got newer computers that blur images when they’re upsampled to our monitors’ native screen depths!”

Marooned?
Gamezebo
“You awaken on an island with no memory of who you are or why you’re there. What is this place? There were clearly scientists working here at one time - where have they all gone? What was the purpose of their experiments? Most importantly, how are you going to get home? These are just some of the questions you’ll confront as you struggle to regain your memory in the hidden object game, Marooned.
You’ll investigate every inch of the island in your efforts to regain your memory, slowly piecing together the bread crumbs of information left behind. The island isn’t particularly big, however, so you’ll revisit each location many times: three times for hidden object searches, and a few other times to uncover key objects you’ll need to continue further…
…The mystery of Marooned, involving an ancient civilization’s unusual power source, is a darn good one and will keep you intrigued as you work your way around the island’s various locations. Sorting through the bric-a-brac left behind by the science team, you quickly learn that you yourself are a scientist of some renown…
…Marooned is certainly an enjoyable experience, with a fun mystery and decent voice acting from its main character, but its low difficulty level and short length make it tough to recommend as a full purchase. Keep your eyes peeled for a bundle of the full trilogy - that’ll probably be a more satisfying way to visit this game.”

The Conjurer: A Magical Mystery?
Gamezebo
“Some hidden object games, naturally, are better than others. And now we’ve got The Conjurer: A Magical Mystery, a very good but not flawless “HOG” from GameHouse. When it comes to production values, personality and story, this new game delivers the goods, but falls short in other areas.
The story surrounding this adventure follows the world’s greatest magician, the Conjurer, who decides to retire - but not before he delivers one final performance at his mysterious Victorian-era mansion - and you’re invited to the legendary show. But there’s also a catch: the illusionist has also issued a challenge to ten other top magicians, such as “Inkwell the Incredible,” to perform at this retirement party, and whoever impresses the most will inherit the Conjurer’s coveted secrets. There’s more to the tale, too, including assassination attempts against the host, but we’ll let you unravel all the details yourself…
…If you can forgive […] minor issues, The Conjurer, with its high production, enjoyable story and fun HOG searching, should prove to be a better-than-average HOG puzzler for those looking for a weekend-long diversion.”
Casual Explosion
“…The Conjurer is a hidden object adventure game, of sorts. Though you have an inventory of collected objects, you don’t directly use them to solve puzzles or unlock new areas. They merely represent props needed for each of the magicians’ signature tricks. Notes about each magician and the Conjurer himself are saved in his own journal (written in invisible ink, of course!) that you quickly find in your investigation…
…The Conjurer is quite generous with hints, and would make an excellent first hidden object game for someone new to the genre. Clicking on any word in your grocery list of hidden objects reveals its silhouette - perfect if you want to know whether you’re looking for a baseball “bat” or flying mammal “bat” - or even just to see whether a spear is aligned horizontally or vertically. You also have a crystal ball that you can click on to show you the location of an object. This can be reused as often as you like, but it takes perhaps twenty seconds to recharge between uses. So-called “super hints” are also given out, one per magician suspect, that can tell you the exact location of a specific object. These don’t carry over into future magicians’ chapters, so use them while you’ve got them…
… Overall, I was very impressed with The Conjurer: A Magical Mystery. The hidden object scenes have been assembled well, with only a touch of clipartitis, and the story of Archibald, Adelaide, Alexandria, etc. actually really interested me. Perhaps it’s just my love of the “strangers invited to a secluded spot and one of them is a killer” genre… or the really exemplary chicken sandwich I had for lunch, but I enjoyed this game much more than I expected. Even though it’s not as clever as full-on inventory style object manipulation hidden object game adventures, the magic tricks are fun and I had a blast.”

Trapped - The Abduction walkthrough

Trapped – The Abduction?
Gamezebo
“The thought of being kidnapped or trapped without escape is a viable fear for most people. In the latest title from Gogii Games, you’ll play the role of victim Helene as she tries to find a way of escape before her killer closes in on her. But making a casual horror game is notoriously tricky business. Does Trapped: The Abduction have the makings of a truly great and scary game?
The game begins without much elaboration on what’s going on. All you know is that the main character, Helene, has been kidnapped and taken to a strange warehouse-like location. Her kidnapper, a man cloaked in a dark hooded sweater with a deep and distorted voice, has set up cameras all around the location, asking Helene if she’d like to play a game: a game of survival. Helene must not only try to escape, but recover her memory, identity, and evidence along the way before time runs out…
…Overall, Trapped: The Kidnapping really doesn’t offer the horrifying experience the title suggests. The hidden objects aren’t even that hard to find. With quirky items and tasks littering every scene and failed attempts at increasing the drama, you’d be better off investing in another title for your Halloween scares.”
Casual Explosion
“…In this hidden object adventure game from Gogii Games, you play a young woman named Helene who wakes up in the trunk of an old car with no idea who you are or how you got there. (You don’t even know your own name!) It quickly becomes apparent that you’ve been kidnapped by a puzzle-loving maniac… a killer who would love nothing better than to see you fail at one of his puzzle rooms. Your only hope lies in beating him at his own game, but as you progress from room to room, he’s watching you via closed circuit surveillance cameras and mocking your every effort. Trapped: The Abduction is a horror film themed hidden object game where you use items you find in piles of junk to escape from one room to the next…
…I’m happy to report that the hidden object scenes are untimed and that there is only a minor penalty for random clicking! Click on too many wrong objects and a bar of static will roll across the screen momentarily. Along with a spooky laugh from the abductor and a gasp from Helene. Total time you’re barred from further random clicking: point eight two seconds. Not bad at all…
…Cut scenes between the hidden object screens and puzzles advance the story, and mostly amount to the C64-using killer taunting Helene. The actor and actress providing the voiceovers do a nice job, and the background music is sufficiently dark and makes a good match for the visuals. However Trapped: The Abduction really drops the ball when it comes to the graphics. I had hoped the days of low resolution, 800×600 hidden object games were behind us, but sadly I was mistaken. With so many dark brown backgrounds and rust-colored objects, clarity is really needed. But I found very little on hand. Too often I clicked on a blob just because I thought it might be an object on my list…”

Miriel’s Enchanted Mystery?
Casual Explosion
“Miriel’s Enchanted Mystery, from Myth People, is the second game in the very successful Miriel series. At an hour when time management games seemed to be getting stale, Myth People came along and released a fresh new game about a young girl running a magical general store. The original Miriel the Magical Merchant didn’t put a new spin on time management games, but it was inventive and had a flexible story that allowed you to be either good or evil. And unlockable recipes!
In this sequel, Miriel has moved to her grandmother’s hamlet of Heremoor, and as you might expect she quickly sets up a magical general store. Old habits die hard! Since Miriel studied magic, her grandmother asks her to examine a large, strange, rune-covered egg that appeared in the kind old lady’s garden. Miriel thinks she might be able to unlock it, but she’ll need the help of town mystic (and rune expert) Zag… and to get his help she’ll need to give him snake oil, eggs, and of course assist him in finding various hidden objects he has lost around town. Anything to help out her grandmother…
…Simple hidden object scenes act as minigames, and to be honest aren’t very compelling or memorable… but do function admirably enough as breaks between the levels at Miriel’s general store. It boggles my primitive cat brain that anyone would advertise this game by mentioning the hidden object minigames, but I’m not a marketing genius. Thankfully, as with the previous game in the series you can unlock real recipes that use the ingredients in Miriel’s store. If you really, really get into your games, like I do, there’s no better way to cap off a day spent playing in front of the computer than by cooking up the same foods in your own kitchen that you were just minutes before clicking like mad upon.”
