DinerTown Detective Agency?

“Oh, that Bernie the Bookworm. Don’t be fooled by his meek appearance — he has the goods to become a savvy sleuth. After reading an ad in a magazine, Bernie orders a detective kit and with the help of his friend Flo (of Diner Dash fame), he sets out to solve more than two dozen mysteries plaguing Diner Town.
Such is the premise behind PlayFirst’s DinerTown Detective Agency, a new hidden object game (HOG) with fun deduction elements and many mini-games. If my weekend with this game (and my three kids) is any indication, this downloadable puzzler is worthy if your time — and mouse-clicking finger.
The game is separated into two modes: Story and Freeplay. With the former, you can choose to play the game with a time element — therefore you must solve the puzzles before the clock runs out — or in a relaxed mode with no time pressure whatsoever…
…Overall, we found the game enjoyable with its multiple game-play elements, cute stories and characters, and few game modes. At the very least, fans of HOGs or adventure games should download and play the free 60-minute trial.”
Casualicious
“…As a hidden object game, DinerTown Detective Agency has 2 types of mechanics spread throughout its 25 levels. First is traditional hidden object wherein you have listed objects as clues and all you have to do is to find them all to move on, and the second one needs you to collect broken parts of items and use the repaired items to interact with the actual scene. Some clues are important for Bernie’s detective work, indicated by flashing lights and sometimes, Bernie’s head popping out at the bottom of the screen telling you what clue that particular object showed him…
…After you reach 4 to 5 levels in DinerTown Detective Agency, you’re going to get ranked depending on how well you played. In order to get the highest score possible, try not to use hints, play well and fast, and don’t make mistakes during the second and third parts of the level. Honestly, I didn’t care much about this feature but for those not like me, I guess it adds a little replay factor to the game.
Overall, the game is presented nicely in familiar DinerTown art and fashion. I loved how all the famous Dash game stars are included in the game as either innocent or guilty on such wacky crimes. Mini-games are very engaging and enjoyable to play, and I didn’t even notice time fly so fast during my supposed-to-be trial run of the game. In summary, it’s such a fun trip through DinerTown unlike you’ve ever seen it before.”

Mystic Diary: Lost Brother?

“Step into the Victorian era and go on a quest to help a magician find his brother, Gustav, in Mystic Diary: Lost Brother, a game that exemplifies a traditional hidden object game with some original puzzles ready for the solving.
The magician explores his brother’s home for clues where he eventually makes his way onto a balloon that crashed crashing in an unknown place. He tells the story from a first-person point of view, sharing his observations. Along the way, he reveals little things about himself. The diary captures the magician’s thoughts, which can be reviewed at any time…
… A couple of twists await and the mystery arouses enough curiosity that you want to know what happens. Mystic Diary exhibits what hidden object fans expect in a solid game: variety of scenes, good story and crisp graphics. While not as magical as some games out there, Mystic Diary: Lost Brother puts on a good show where an hour is enough to decide if you want to stay until the end.”

Faerie Solitaire?
Gamezebo
“Some modern solitaire experiences ruin the basic pleasure of the game - which comes from organizing cards into groups based on a simple set of rules - by adding too many complicated power-ups and contrived game-changing variables. Happily, that’s not the case with Faerie Solitaire, a dead simple solitaire experience that sprinkles just the right amount of fun twists and tweaks to keep the game interesting without making it too convoluted.
The narrative, which plays out via short bits of text and static paintings and concerns a fellow who explores a series of faerie lands, is shallow and forgettable. Still, it serves its primary purpose, which is to break up the game’s 400-odd hands into perceptibly different stages and levels each with their own aesthetic. The images and backdrops aren’t exactly gallery worthy, and you’re unlikely to want upload the music to your iPod, but the artistic elements suffice for such a simple game…
…The game’s simplicity and rudimentary artistic design aside, there’s well over a dozen hours of content here. And since there is an inherent randomness to each hand, replay value is very high. Simply put, Faerie Solitaire gives you plenty of solitaire for your buck.”

Escape From Paradise 2: A Kingdom’s Quest?

The Hero must complete numerous tasks at the bidding of the various tribal inhabitants of the island in order to restore it to its long former glory and rise to the rank of the new King…
Overall, Escape from Paradise 2: A Kingdom’s Quest is a fun game that promises manyhours of gameplay and a buffet of original mini-games, but some elements could have been implemented more smoothly. A hint system would have done wonders for this game, seeing how creative it is in hiding important objects. Those who like Virtual Villagers-style games and the first Escape from Paradise are sure to love A Kingdom’s Quest, but those new or unfamiliar with challenging adventure games could easily be intimidated and frustrated by this title.”

Tradewinds Odyssey?
Gamezebo
“Tradewinds Odyssey, the newest quest-based adventure from Sandlot Games, shows the publisher listens closely to its fans. Back to the ocean, with stories based on familiar characters from Greek mythology, Odyssey plays like Tradewinds “lite” compared to 2008’s Tradewinds Caravans.
A few players who like to get elbowdeep in complex strategy will be disappointed, but those who preferred the simpler gameplay of Tradewinds 2 will find this fun and engaging. And with six different stories involving pirates, princes, and mythical beasts, you can easily take more than a week before you even get out of story mode!…
… Finally, Easy Mode is very well-designed. Players who want a full adventure experience should leave Easy Mode off and explore on their own, but if you’d prefer to play through the main quest directly, Easy Mode will mark the next city/building you should visit with a large orange “?”. You still have to come up with your own merchant and military strategy, but you should never feel like you’re stuck not knowing where to go next.
So the good news is if you preferred the gameplay of earlier Tradewinds titles to last year’s Caravans, you’ll probably really like Tradewinds Odyssey. If you liked Caravans a lot, you’ll still enjoy Odyssey too — just be prepared for a simpler experience. And if you’re new to the series, but you’re up for some quest-based voyaging through Ancient Greece, hop on board! I just wish the city graphics lived up to the quality of the character drawings.”
