StormWinds 1.5

StormWinds 1.5 is the latest action game created by Jared Riley and his team from Hero Interactive, the game studio behind Bubble Tanks and Starshine. StormWinds 1.5 is expected to be released in a few days at ArmorGames and Jared was kind enough to answer a few questions for FreeGamesNews readers (thanks Jared!)

FreeGamesNews: Hi Jared. Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?

Jared: Hey there! Certainly! My name is Jared Riley, I’m the founder of a little company called Hero Interactive, based in the US. I left my old job customizing accounting software in August ‘06 to start my own thing, and it’s been craziness since. I didn’t start developing non-client work for the web till about March, since then we’ve put out a lot of fun games I think, including Bubble Tanks, LightSprites, StarShine, and StormWinds.

FreeGamesNews: When did you start developing Flash games?

Jared: I actually started with Shockwave and Director while in school. I really wanted to develop some talent to get into the game design specialization the university was offering, so I bought a lot of books, got the software, and started jumping in. My first online game was Shark Bait in ShockWave back in 2003 I think, not too long ago. My first game in Flash was Alien Abduction as part of a class project.

Inside a Dead Skyscraper

Categories: Flash, Free, Games, Online, Others   18 comments - July 27, 2010

Inside a Dead Skyscraper is the latest experimental game created by Paolo Pedercini, the author of Every Day the Same Dream.

“What if the term “music video game” didn’t evoke images of bored college kids fiddling with pathetic plastic guitars emulating the last icons of a declining music industry?

What if indie game developers allied with indie musicians, making odd games promoting odd and unknown music while still keeping their creative autonomy the way the best music-video directors have been doing for decades?

What if a song (not its beats, not its spectrum, not its amplitude!) was dictating the content of a game and not the other way around?

These are the convoluted questions that the convoluted not-game/interactive-music-video “Inside a dead skyscraper” is trying to answer!”

In one word: brilliant!

Have fun!

Note: The song is from the album “Target Museum” Specific Recordings – 2010

Puzzatales

PuzzatalesPuzzatalesIf you enjoy  playing jigsaw puzzle games, you will love Puzzatales, a series of three interactive storytellings with animated puzzle pieces.

The authors, Mathew Stradwick (coding) and Spike Vallentine (Art) did a very good job here and took the classic jigsaw puzzle to a whole new level!

With 9 original puzzle shapes, 9 difficulty levels, a very good soundtrack and three amazingly done stories, Puzzatales has it all.

I’m not a big fan of jigsaw puzzles, but I definitely love this game!

Silversphere

Categories: Flash, Free, Games, Online, Puzzle, Video walkthrough, Walkthrough   246 comments - January 24, 2007

silversphereSilversphereSilversphere is the latest puzzle game developped by Damien Clarke, the author of The Missile Game 3D.

The game borrows some concepts from Sokoban: the object in each of the 25 levels is to enter the blue vortex with your silver sphere, while avoiding falling in water or being hit by moving gold spheres. To reach the exit vortex, push boxes around to clear paths and build bridges: only box can be pushed at a time.

Use the arrow keys to control the silver sphere and stay on the land or you will have to restart the level.

You will also find ice cubes in later levels that slide until they hit an obstacle or fall in water.
In several levels, your first objective is to load the claws with a box to make the vortex appear. Blue claws require ice cube!

To spice things up, the author added a countdown timer: run out of time and you will have to restart the level.

If the graphics and animations are nicely polished, the music loop is far too short and annoying: the mute button will be your friend!

Overall, Silversphere is a more than interesting choice for all Sokoban fans!

Have fun!

Out: File#01

Categories: Flash, Free, Games, Online, Room Escape, Walkthrough   61 comments - September 18, 2006

Out: File#01Out: File#01Out: File#01 is a Room Escape game released last June by the Japanese Isomura Kai of Tonakai Interactive. Not really designed for beginners, the game takes place in a room full of very well hidden objects and very tricky puzzles to solve: getting out of here is really difficult and dedicated to extremely patient gamers!

You can even die near the end of the game, which is quite unusual in this type of games and can lead to some frustration as you will have to start the whole game over again. Playing a small tune is another challenge that is waiting for you in the game, just like in The Big House, except that you will use a different instrument to do so.

If you’re looking for a real Room Escape challenge, Out:File#01 was designed for you.

M. Menzel-Nielsen and F. Wiesner (Mausland Entert.) Interview

Categories: Interviews    - August 3, 2006

Mausland Entertainment

I had recently the opportunity to chat with the two founders of Mausland Entertainment, Mathias Menzel-Nielsen and Felix Wiesner. They took some time to answer a few questions for FreeGamesNews (Thanks guys).

FreeGamesNews: Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about Mausland Entertainment?

Wiesi: Hi I am Felix Wiesner, and I am responsible for the graphics.
Matze: And I am Mathias Menzel-Nielsen, I do all the coding and server administration and all the technical stuff. We are both 28 years old and born in beautiful Hamburg/Germany where we enjoy living since our birth.

FreeGamesNews: How many people are working at Mausland Entertainment? How did the team come together?

Wiesi: Right now it’s just me and Matze working at Mausland. We met long before Mausland was founded, he always loved to program and I did art stuff so it was just a matter of time until the idea was born to make games together.
Matze: We met years ago as NeoGeo enthusiasts, a game console of the 90s which had a unique fresh game and graphic style which is still superior and influenced us a lot. We always wanted to make such games on our own and so we try to get close to them until today and probably until doomsday :)
We are also very happy that Row is supplying great music tunes for some of the games.
