Hunted Forever

Categories: Flash, Free, Games, Online, Platform   3 comments - October 18, 2008

Hunted ForeverHunted ForeverHunted Forever in an expansive and challenging plateformer designed by Evan Miller (Pixelante Game Studios) and it is incredibly well done!

“Dear pathetic meatbags, our world is currently in the process of being blown up. Your cooperation in trying to not die miserable little deaths would be much appreciated.”

Run through the environments to collect ‘machine parts’ and bring them back to safe houses for points. All the while, try not to die too frequently from the lasers, missiles, bombs, drones, and explosions coming from that all-too-friendly alien ship tagging along with you.

Use the arrow keys or WASD to move and upgrade your character across sessions (easy and normal modes) or “get serious” and play in the challenging Pure and Hardcore modes.

Hunted Forever is a pure gem, with incredibly fluid animation (well at least on my computer), fast action and amazing acrobatics.

Check out this game asap: it’s a must play!

Golf Ace Hawaii

Categories: Free, Games, Online, Shockwave, Sports   3 comments - March 19, 2008

Golf Ace HawaiiGolf Ace HawaiiGolf Ace Hawaii is the latest game created by the talented folks of Silent Bay Studios from Italia (check out the amazing Skyboard).

Golf Ace Hawaii is – as you can guess from its name – a golf simulation game. The game has two types of game modes: single player and training mode. Select your character, select your opponent and then enjoy the beautiful 9-hole course.

Playing Golf Ace Hawaii is relatively easy once you master the controls (that’s why there is a training mode!). Aim your swing with the arrow keys (press V to view the course map, it helps!). There is a meter at that bottom of the screen to determine the force of the swing and accuracy with which you connect to the ball. Press the space bar to start the power bar, press it again to choose the power and press the space bar a third time to set the accuracy. Don’t forget to check the wind direction indicated by a pink arrow in the top right corner of the game window.

When you’re right near the hole, a grid shows up with sliding markers that helps you see the slope in the green.

Overall, Golf Ace Hawaii is an amazing Shockwave golf simulation game. The 3D Graphics are top-notch, and the game has it all. One word of warning though: this game requires a more-than-decent computer (especially the graphic card) to run smoothly.

TNT Runner

Categories: Flash, Free, Games, Online, Puzzle   4 comments - January 21, 2008

TNT RunnerTNT RunnerTNT Runner is a puzzle game by T-Studio.de. The goal of the game is to get your little guy to the square that contains the circle on it. The board is full of squares and some of those squares contain TNT. The user has to move their person to the exit one square at a time. Each time the player moves their characters the timers on the TNT count down. The TNT has a blast radius and if your little person is caught in the blast radius he will die and you will have to redo the level.

Players can move their mouse over the TNT to determine the blast radius. Each set of TNT has a different blast radius and some have different timers and others have the same amount of time on their timers. Players have to find their way around the blast areas to the exit without dying. The higher levels have cracks in the floors and when the TNT explodes the cracks in the floor become holes in the floor that prevent you from going in that direction. The cracks in the floor make the higher levels much more challenging because players need to move their guy past the cracks before they fall, as well as, avoiding TNT blast radius. If you can not pass the cracks before they fall, it becomes impossible to make it to the exit. On levels that contain the cracks it takes extra planning and strategy to make it to the exit.

The beginning levels start out fairly simple and I found myself saying what is so hard about this puzzle game, but then I found out what was so hard. Around level 10 or so, the levels get more challenging and more interesting. Stick with the game until that point if you are also thinking it is too easy.

The one issue I found with TNT Runner was the controls. Controlling the character with your mouse is simple and works like it should, but controlling the character with the keyboard is a different story. I got extremely frustrated with the keyboard controls because they were not intuitive to me. I would hit the down keyboard arrow and the character would go right and I would hit the left keyboard arrow and the character would go down. If the game allows you to use the keyboard arrows to control the character, then the character should move in the same direction of the keyboard arrow. As I said earlier, the mouse controls are fine and I ended up using the mouse and had no issues.

TNT Runner is a really fun puzzle game that requires some strategic thinking to be able to complete some levels. TNT Runner gets addicting and is definitely worth playing.

Have fun!

Bubble Islands

Categories: Arcade, Flash, Free, Games, Online, Puzzle   13 comments - February 1, 2007

Bubble IslandsBubble IslandsBubble Islands is a new retro-style arcade/puzzle game launched two days ago by dot-invasion, a Swiss design/entertainment studio created in 2005 by Alexandre Renevey.

Bubble Islands is strongly inspired by Puyo Puyo, a game developed in 1991 by the Japanese company Compile.

The version currently online at the time of writing is a finalist of the 2007 IGF Festival in the Best Web Browser Game category. The game isn’t finished yet but is already playable!

Two different modes are available: the arcade mode and the puzzle mode.

Bubble IslandsThe object of the game in the arcade mode is to defeat each of your opponents in a duel by filling their grid up to the top with parasites. To do so, connect at least 4 bubbles of the same color to make them disappear. The faster you connect your bubbles, the better.

In the puzzle mode, your goal is to remove ALL the bubbles from each of the 10 islands in each level. Once you’ve completed a level, the next one is unlocked.

Move your character with the arrow keys and press the space bar to drop your bubbles and to switch them as well while falling.

I spent almost two hours playing with this game today, and overall, if the concept of Bubble Islands is not really innovative, the game is amazingly fun and addictive. The eye candy graphics and the animations are impressive, the different characters are really cute, and the game offers many challenges and a great replay value, thanks to the two game modes available and to the special characters that you can unlock and use once all the others defeated.

And wait, there is more to come. As mentioned above, the game isn’t finished yet and a new version should be released soon, with a multiplayer mode, hi-scores and a puzzle submission option! We are really looking forward to the final version!

Have fun!
