Areas is an arcade shooter game where the player controls a little tank and shoots at bubbles. The bubbles start to shrink and eventually disappear when they are shot at. The bubbles continue to grow if they are not shot at. The goal of the game is to survive each level and beat the level before the bubbles grow so big that you can not escape from them. If the bubbles consume you, you die and have to replay the level.
The player uses the mouse to move the ship. There is a little circle that represents your movement. Move the little circle away from the ship and the ship moves to where the circle is. The ship will shoot the bubbles when the ship comes close enough to the bubble. If the bubbles get too big, they are really difficult to shrink and ultimately pop.
The levels in Areas seem easy at first, but they get more challenging as you progress through the game. There are a ton of levels in the game. Enough to keep any shooter fan occupied for a while. The higher the levels the faster the bubbles grow. Players can’t see the entire screen and must fly around to see the entire screen. The bubbles always seem to grow on the side of the screen you can not see.
I found the game a bit boring, to be honest and I didn’t seem alone in that feeling. Many of the comments on Kongregate or ArmorGames said the same thing. There were some people that did enjoy playing the game, but one of the biggest complaints was the lack of text in the game. I found that really annoying, as well. There weren’t any instructions on how to play or what you were supposed to do. The game loads and there is a play icon and a question mark icon. Players can not click on the play icon before clicking on the question mark icon. You find this out because every time you attempt to click the play button it moves and the question mark takes it’s place. I figured it out, obviously, but it was still annoying.
Eric’s comment: I agree with Jennifer on one point. The lack of instructions ruins the experience for most players and keeps a lot of people away from this game. That being said, once you get used to the controls, staying within the white circles that appear from time to time after you destroyed some bubbles gives you various powerups (check the image above); these powerups are crucial to beat the game in some particular levels (level 10, for example) and make Areas a rewarding experience.
If you are looking for a good shooter game, you may be someone who enjoys Areas.

Wow wht a strange game… Muzik is odd but also cool at the same time… Even the game is strange in a way
Why put a game up if you think it’s “boring” or “annoying”?
As the last few lines of the game post says, you may find it enjoyable. Just because I found it boring and annoying doesn’t mean the rest of the world will find it that way. Everybody has different tastes when it comes to games.
I don’t agree, I got totally hooked on that game. It’s strange that everyone keep describing this game as a “shooter”, I don’t think it describes the game very well (apart that you actually shoot), it’s more like an experience.
I found that the lack of text was a brilliant idea because it forces you to think a little on what you’ll have to do in each level, as the new power-up appearing have to be used differently.
If you play this game like “it’s a shooter, I’m gonna fire at everything that moves”, you’ll probably play the first levels, get stuck at level 10, get bored, and forget about it. But if you think “ok, so what is this game expecting from me now ?”, you may become addicted and waste your sleeping time until you get to lvl 74… :)
I like everything about the game…well except for the music
I agree with longshot. Total addiction after level 10. Nice et various bonus too.
I absolutely agree with Longshot. This game is amazing. I was up for hours past when I should’ve gone to sleep just hopping from one level to another wondering ‘what awesome new area am I gonna find next?’ I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite level, there are so many great things in this game!
This is easily one of my favorite flash games, and everyone should give it a shot, and give it time. When I first played, I got confused by the intro screen and said screw this, I don’t have time. Now, I might be a touch late to school. =) (level 65 so far)
