if you use the coin in the book, it explains to you that you have to rotate each quadrant 90 degrees clockwise (each quarter of the colored squares). If you do that in Paint or some other program (or just do it in your head, if you’re good at that type of stuff), then the numbers are formed.

Like a timeless piece of significant artwork, you’re haunted by these words:

“It has become cold in seeming finally the Autumn it recently.”

It was cold last night, you remember. Almost hit the freezing mark. You were traveling through another country, and you needed gas. And when you opened the car door, a blast of cold air hit you, and you realized that summer was long gone and it was time to seem the Autumn. Embrace the Autumn. Live the Autumn.

“You were walking slowly while thinking that the attemperation in the room and outdoor was difficult.”

You often think about attemperation. It would be nice if you could attemperate the outside. Certainly that’s been the plot of many science-fiction-style movies. But that might mean the end of Autumn. And you’d miss Autumn, with its pleasant chilling breezes, its brilliant-colored trees, the smell of cider and pumpkin patches. You realize that you wouldn’t have it any other way – attemperation is best left to the indoors.

“You suddenly noticed there was a door in the wall in the presence.”

You like to travel down this haunted street, doors mysteriously appearing, inviting you inside. In fact, it has become an important part of your life, constantly seeking adventure. It’s the poetry of your inner being.

“When you opened the door and entered the inside, you were confined.”

As always, you can’t resist the open door. And, as always, the door locks behind you. You see a metal plate screwed on to the door. You know that finding a screwdriver to remove that plate will help you leave, as there must be a four-digit combination lock concealed beneath that plate.

You begin your 112th adventure. It’s all about poetry and donuts.

You see a beige-colored room. There’s a video screen on the wall. It has four colored buttons. Three are blue, one is green. Is that signifcant? You compose a haiku:

Video screen calls:
touch my buttons colored blue,
but green is for death.

What does it mean? Green isn’t death. Green is life. Could this be a subconscious reference to the end of Autumn? The end of deciduous trees remaining in the state of green? Ready to sleep. Ready to turn.

Suddenly, button colors cease to have meaning. You remember there’s a book on the floor – the hint book that’s always provided to you upon entry. You look at it and see a grey square next to a picture of the window of a house. You’re going to need to fill in the blanks later.

You turn to the right and see a bed. Above the bed you see a picture frame. Looking closer at the picture, you see a grid of light green and dark green squares. The pattern isn’t obvious.

There’s a plate of Donuts on the bed. These donuts are hard. At one time, they may have been pleasantly sugared. But that was a long time ago, perhaps last Autumn. They turned moldy, and then they began to harden. You try and break one open, but perhaps the fossilization proceess has begun, as you only succeed in bruising your hand. Another haiku comes to mind:

Opinions harden
over time, like the surface
of ageless donuts.

You search the surface of the bed, and find a spot on the front of the headboard. Looking between the slats, you pick up an Edge. Or a ruler. Or something that could help you draw a straight line if you needed to draw a straight line.

Under the bed, on the right side, you find your trusty pair of Scissors. No red key? Maybe you’ve missed something.

You turn to the right and see the cabinet with the colored door locks. It’s next to a dark-colored bureau.

You look behind the cabiney on the right side and see a blue key hanging from a thread. You take the Scissors and cut the thread, taking the Blue Key.

You open a drawer with the Blue Key and take a second plate of fossilized Donuts and a pair of Binoculars.

Not much to go on
so far. Not even a Red
Key brightens our day.

You turn to the right and see an entertainment center with a small television next to a large table.

You take a third plate of Donuts from the table. You look under the table and find the Red Key. Wow! The Red Key is on a completely different screen than it has been in months. A warm feeling envelops you. A feeling strong enough that you’re inspired to take a bite of a donut.

Big mistake. Now you need to hope that there’s a dentist hiding in one of those locked drawers.

You look behind the entertainment center on the left side, and find a blue Grip. It looks exactly like the grip of all your screwdrivers in past adventures. So you take the Edge and fit it on to the Grip, and now you have your blue-handled Screwdriver.

There’s a blotch high up on the right side of the ceiling. You take your Binoculars, and see that it’s a series of four chalked circles – Red, Yellow, Green and Blue. This must have something to do with the buttons on the video screen next to the door. Remember that green is death.

You try and watch television, but it’s not working.

Dear dark television.
You need a remote, poor thing.
Must use the Red Key.

There’s a grey box on the table with familiar puzzle tiles. While you know the box contains a yellow key, you know it’s not quite time to solve the puzzle, as you haven’t seen a clue.

Moving to the left, you open a locked drawer with a Red Key. You take a fourth plate of Donuts and a Remote Control.

You turn back to the right, and use the Remote Control on the television. There’s another weird patten of colored squares – this time in blue.

You go to the right, look at the screen again, and press the buttons to form the Red, Yellow, Green, Blue order you saw on the ceiling earlier. Two more patterns of colored squares appear on the video screen.

This time, you begin to see a pattern. The yellow grid in particular has pieces that appear to unique to the number 3. You remember the clue in the book refered to a large square perhaps being divided into quadrants, like the window of a house.

Turn each quadrant once
to the right, that makes it right,
and all is revealed.

You rotate each quadrant on the yellow design 90 degrees to the right and you see the number 3. And with the red design, you quickly form a 6.

Moving to the right, you look at the green design, rotate its quadrants, and form a 0.

Moving twice more to the right, you form a 4 with the blue design.

But alas, what about
the grey box, the yellow key,
the pain of Autumn?

You decide to open the tile puzzle box without a clue. It’s easy enough, just a mad cow with red ears. There’s your Yellow Key.

You go to the left, open the drawer with the Yellow Key and take a Coin and the fifth plate of Donuts.

You move twice more to the left, then use the Coin on the grey square in the clue book, and there’s a hint telling you to rotate things 90 degrees to the right. Good thing you already did so.

Whither maddened cow?
Why is your picture hidden?
How now we proceed?

You use the Screwdriver to remove the metal plate from the combination lock, and you try the combination in the color order you found on the ceiling: 6304. The lock clicks and you’re quickly out of the room.

Escaped! This time with
heaping plates of moldy orbs
and very sore teeth.

Sorry about the delay. I was out of town all weekend. I have to introduce Anemic’s girlfriend to these puzzles.

@Anemic: Thanks! That was a very inspired WT. About the donuts: they were perfectly OK when I did the game a couple of days ago. But you took your time, and time takes its toll on donuts (and also on our teeth). We were all asking:

Whither Anemic? Where has he turned?
Has he betrayed us? He shall be burned!

But anyway, the donuts were punishment enough for you…
