Somewhere in Japan, there’s a long, dark hallway with hundreds of mysterious doors. Most of the time, these doors remain closed. But every Sunday, as you travel down this hallway in search of adventure, you find a glimmer of light and an open invitation.

Today, you see the glint of a plastic-covered walnut floor as you enter a room. This floor is polished within an inch of its existence, and the plastic makes for difficult footing. You wonder if you should have worn your baseball cleats for this adventure. You begin studying the peach-painted walls as the door locks, enveloping you in your 111th Parallellove puzzle.

The door has a four-digit combination lock. As always, it’s your job to discover this combination so you can escape back into the long, dark hallway. And there’s a video screen on the wall where there’s always a video screen these days. It has four black round buttons on the bottom, can’t do anything with them yet.

There’s a sink on the wall, but, aside from having no visible plumbing, there’s nothing unusual about it. It may be a bizarre lighting fixture. You look under the sink, where there should be a drain, and see a picture of a dancing cat between halves of a Halloween pumpkin, which must be a clue for the hidden picture on the grey tile puzzle box that always contains the yellow key on the west-facing wall.

On the floor there’s a book, exactly where a book is always present. You reach down to pick it up, sliding a bit on the plastic. Just a big black square of scribbles drawn in the book. You realize you’ll need an eraser to remove the scribbles and reveal a clue to understanding what’s not yet on the video screen.

You turn to the right, as you always do these days (perhaps next week you’ll consider starting by turning to the left, even though that would result in finding colored keys in the wrong order).

There you find a large leather sofa with a long ottoman. Next to the sofa is a small plant. Above the plant, you see a framed white picture. The picture is blank, as it always is these days. You’ll need to find a way to draw in the picture yourself.

You look at the plant, and you’re surprised to find that it’s a magical plant. There’s an uneven brown area in the mulch. You study it, and it seems to be a hole in the time-space continuum itself. Instinctively, you don’t touch the hole, you realize you’ll need a magical space tool for further examination.

You look under the ottoman on the left side, and see a yellow ball dangling from a thread. You yank the thread, but it’s special thread that can’t be broken by pulling alone. You will need to find a scissors. Because you’ve done this 111 times, you know the yellow ball will soon be joined by other balls, and you will use them on the video screen next to the door.

You look under the pillow on the left side of the leather sofa and pick up the Red Key. There’s a tiny brown triangle of the same material you found in the plant, and you decide to leave that alone.

On top of the sofa, you pick up a Hot Dog. It seems the cook (and I use that term generously) who provides the food for these visits was feeling a bit under the weather this week. Apparently, he went to the store and found some month-old hot-dog buns. They’re so hard, they couldn’t be opened. He had to use a chisel to make a tiny impression on the top of the buns.

That was just enough room for pencil-thick hot dogs, which you can only find at a specialty butcher. Sadly, he boiled these hot dogs for as long as you cook normal hot dogs, so they’re rather rubbery and tasteless.

Finally, using a straight-edge ruler and precision squeeze bottles, he added a perfect zig-zag of mustard and four triangles of wasabe to the top of the hot dogs. Normally, I would consider wasabe an inspired choice of hot-dog topping. But with the rubbery dogs and rock-hard buns, they’re more paperweights than anything else. They might make for a good weapon if you’re suddenly attacked by an angry bear, or a rabid raccoon.

Turning to the right, you see a pair of cabinets. One is dark and the drawers are sealed. The other is white and contains three colored keyholes.

You grab a second Hot Dog from the top of the white cabinet. You look to the left of the dark cabinet, and find the Blue Key resting on the floor behind the cabinet.

You open a drawer with the Red Key, and find a third Hot Dog, and a Hammer.

You open a drawer with the Blue Key, and find the fourth Hot Dog, and a pair of Scissors.

You turn to the right and see a tall chest of drawers next to a table. The table contains a grey tile puzzle box. There’s an eraser on top of the chest that you can’t reach. You try throwing your hot-dog missiles at the eraser, but miss badly and splatter wasabe all over the nice peach walls. You silently apologize to the room designer. Wasabe can stain.

You find a Stick on the floor in front of the chest, so you use the Stick to take the Eraser.

You look behind the chest on the left side, and find an empty Cup. And you look under the table and see a heating grate on the wall. You try hitting the grate with your Hammer, and a couple of the hot dogs. All you manage to do is dent one of the buns.

You open the tile puzzle box by creating the picture of the dancing pumpkin cat. There’s your Yellow Key.

Turning to the right, you use the Eraser on the book, and you reveal a diagram that looks a lot like the wall with the cabinets. You see the sconce above two squares representing the cabinets. And the three colored keyholes. And an X in the middle of the top sealed drawer of the dark cabinet.

You use the Cup in the sink to fill the cup with water. Still no visible plumbing, obviously this is a magic sink.

You move to the right, look under the ottoman, and use the Scissors to cut the magic thread and take the Yellow Ball.

You look in the plant again, and, casting off all sense of danger, pour the water from the Cup into the brown hole. The hole disappears, and there’s a Green Ball. You grab it with a sigh of relief.

You to the right and use the Hammer where X marked the spot on the drawing of the top drawer. You pick up the Red Ball.

You open a drawer with the Yellow Key, and find the fifth and final Hot Dog on a rock bun, as well as a Crowbar.

Moving once again to the right, you use the Crowbar on the heating grate under the table. There you find the Blue Ball.

You go back to the right, go to the video screen and start arranging balls randomly on the four black buttons. You find that when you place a ball, alone, in the right spot, a diagram appears on the screen.

The Red Ball goes in the first slot, the Yellow Ball in the second slot, the Green Ball in the third slot, and the Blue Ball in the fourth slot. But only one ball may be on a button at any one time.

You study the diagrams. They don’t make a lot of sense. Finally, you begin to see black lines on each diagram. They seem to be completely symmetrical, both vertically and horizontally.

On the red diagram, you can see the number four outlined in the upper-right corner. And you can see it upside down in the lower right corner, backward in the upper-left corner and both backward and upside down in the lower left corner. Maybe 4 is the first number in the code.

Looking at the other diagrams, you see four 0s on the yellow screen, 2s on the green screen and 5s on the blue screen. You try the code 4025 on the door lock, and the door opens.

You leave the room, ready for your new career developing a missile guidance technology for flying hot-dog missiles.

You’re right!
But when I first tried it, it worked that way :-O – the hammer just vanished after I clicked that object AND the result was the same. And afterwards, I wasn’t able to repeat it. I sometimes wonder whether they still do some bugfixing in those games after they’ve put them online?
I remember another case where they removed an object (one of those cleaning rags) from a game later on – to this day, I don’t know how one is supposed to solve that game now …
